Total Vein Care – A Leading Northern Colorado Vein Center

Whether you are walking, dancing, or stretched out on the beach, your legs should be a source of pride. But for the 70 million American adults who suffer from varicose veins, they are a source of discomfort and self-consciousness. Conditions such as varicose veins and spider veins can make legs physically unattractive as well as uncomfortable.

But you can get rid of veins, and Total Vein Care can help. Our Fort Collins vein center is the ideal place for treatment if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Itching, burning or throbbing in the legs
  • "Restless leg syndrome"
  • Legs that tire easily after walking a short distance
  • The appearance of bulging, ropy or knotty veins close to the surface of the legs
  • Dark red, purple or blue discoloration in the leg veins
  • Small red or dark-blue web-like veins near the surface of the skin on the legs as well as the arms, chest, neck, head or face
  • Non-healing venous ulcers

Dr. Steven Kaufman is one of Northern Colorado’s leading vein specialists, having performed over 1000 VNUS Closure (endovenous RF) procedures, a leading minimally invasive vein treatment with less pain and bruising than laser treatments:

What causes varicose veins?

Varicose veins are the result of the condition called venous reflux. When veins are healthy, they allow blood to flow from the limbs to the heart, but not in the reverse direction. The blood is pumped along steadily by contraction of the calf muscles through one-way valves. Sometimes, for reasons such as heredity, age, obesity, or pregnancy, the walls of the veins weaken and the valves fail. When this happens, rather than moving effectively back to the heart, the blood flow reverses, leading to high pressure in the veins. This results in symptoms such as pain, heaviness, and burning, as well as development of the knotted or ropey varicose veins.

How can I get rid of varicose veins and other problem veins?

In decades past, an invasive form of vein surgery called vein stripping was the only viable treatment of varicose veins. Recent years have seen tremendous advances in vein treatment, and now there are a range of non-surgical, minimally invasive approaches to the problems of both varicose veins and spider veins. It produced significant morbidity and down time.
